Notes:

Gillow?s note to the pb erroneously gives her mother as Catherine Charleton of Hesleyside. There is considerable and unnecessary confusion among writers about Sir Edward?s marriage but it is clear that his issue were by his wife Christina Stewart (cf. Skeet, Life of Sir Edward Widdrington, p. 139, who credits him with two wives. Burke's Extinct Peerage, p. 564, gives him a wife who was daughter of a Charlton of Hesleyside, assigning Edward?s eventual heiress Mary wife of Sir Edward Charlton to the marriage. Christina?s Will was proved in 1684 according to the Register of the Estates of Roman Catholics in Northumberland in the 18th Century, p. 3. See Note to LA306 Catherine Widdrington. KKR
