In January 1626 the Commissary deposed Abbess Tildesley and installed Margaret Paul in her place, to the great discontent of many of the nuns. She was removed and sent with 10 supporters to Dunkirk. The Commissary struggled to enforce his will, but eventually yielded after the nuns at Gravelines successfully appealed to Rome (Gravelines Chron, 145-65).
